October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month (NCSAM), which is a collaborative effort between the Cybersecurity & Infrastructure Agency (CISA) and the National Cyber Security Alliances (NCSA). Now in its 17th year, NCSAM aims to generate awareness of the importance of cybersecurity not only for enterprises but also for individuals. This year’s theme is “Do Your Part # BeCyberSmart” and encourages individuals to take control of their own safety online.
Throughout October, CISA and NCSA will be focusing on the following areas.
October 5 (week 1): If You Connect It, Protect It
October 12 (week 2): Securing Devices at Home and Work
October 19 (week 3): Securing Internet-Connected Devices in Healthcare
October 26 (week 4): The Future of Connected Devices
Overall, there is a strong emphasis on securing Internet-connect devices. With the average US household having 11 connected devices and the current remote work model, ensuring the safety of connected devices has never been more important.
If your organization wants to get involved during National CS Awareness Month, there are several ways to do so.
Get Involved on Social Media: Download and share the sample social media posts provided by CISA and NCSA. Last year, NCSAM’s hashtag had over 95,000 uses with an approximate reach of over 700 million impressions. Join the conversation online and generate awareness of the importance of cybersecurity.
Talk About It: Talk about the importance of cybersecurity with your colleagues, friends, and family. It is important that we are staying safe at work and at home, so encourage others to talk about what they are doing to stay safe online and share helpful tips and resources to make sure everyone around you is secure.
Ensure the Safety of Your Business: Now is the perfect time to check-in on your organization’s cybersecurity measures. Through updated password policies, firewall management, or employee trainings, October is the perfect month to kick start or update your online strategy.
Do your part, and be cyber smart!
